Although Ecuador was and remains the authentic crafters of the hat, the current name dates back to the exporting of them through Panama leading to the adoption of the hat name known today.  Regardless of the misnomer, master weavers, using toquilla straw from the region, passed down the ancient artisan technique for crafting these featherweight hats over centuries making them a statement of both luxury and functionality in any wardrobe, a true mark of elegance.
